  • Analyzing and reducing the risk of lightning

The situation: Germany alone experiences approximately two million atmospheric discharges every year, costing private companies and the economy billions. While this used to constitute mainly property damage and bodily injuries, greater networking in technical facilities and the increasing dependency of business processes on such technical facilities means that consequential and collateral damage now come top.
More and more buildings and facilities are therefore designed for a high level of availability and have built-in protection. But how much protection is really required?

Our solution: Adequate protection for buildings and people, from both a technical and economic point of view but also in particular in terms of the functionality of the facilities in buildings, requires clear risk analysis. Depending on local conditions and the building structure, there will be varying risks of damage that contrast with varying user requirements. On the basis of structured calculations, we analyze the risk of damage and propose tailor-made protective measures that reduce risk to an acceptable level.

Your added value: The completion of end-to-end risk analysis according to VDE 0185-305-2 requires a great deal of experience in applying and defining the parameters as well as good insight into what is feasible from a practical point of view.
Since the introduction of the first standardized analysis of lightning-induced risk of damage to buildings back in 1997, GHMT has used this tool systematically to provide customers with a reliable basis for investing in useful protective measures. Thanks to both the large number of challenging projects for which we have carried out this risk analysis and our involvement in the relevant standardization efforts, our experience is truly unique.
So you can rest assured that our results are always conclusive and compliant with audit requirements.
